Food symbolizes Capitalistic corruption. In this context, it is not merely a way to feed, nourish, and satisfy the body. Packingtown's food is toxic, unnatural, and unhealthy..... it is produced and packaged to increase profits, not for the nourishment of those who will consume it.

Packingtown itself symbolizes corruption and poverty.

The Jungle symbolizes competitiveness. Captialistic competition that results in immorality and a wealth of abuses.
