    Objective:

    Students will read Kipling's most infamous work and consider it's implications in The Jungle Book

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.7.1

    Structure:

    This activity features one of Kipling's most controversial works. Before asking your students to read "The White Man's Burden," tell them that they will most likely be offended by what they read. The purpose of this lesson is not to endorse the attitudes reflected in this poem.

    Encourage students to express their initial reactions to this poem. Then discuss the following questions?
