What causes the breakdown between June and her mother

Basically June's mother wants her daughter to become something she is not. She tries to make June into a piano prodigy thinking this reflects well on the family name. June does not want this. She also tries to mould June into taking her place as the head of the family: June does not want to be her mother. June rebels, which takes a toll on the relationship.
