What message might Saki be sending to the reader about Mother Nature?

Nature is almost a character herself in this story. She ends the branches falling to the ground and the wolves to finish the job of killing the two men

In regard to Mother Nature, Saki seems to be reminding us that in the face of nature, man is insignificant.
