What personality traits do you see in Equiano that enabled him to survive what many others did not?

 Equiano was extremely religious, and ultimately converted to Methodism. He revealed himself to be an industrious and capable leader, thereby shattering racial stereotypes of the time. He had indomitable spirit and he knew education would be the undoing of slavery.
