What was happening between Patrick and Omri's relationship?

Once Patrick learns about the figurines, he pressures Omri to make all of the figurines to life. Omri declines his request, and Patrick goes behind his back, animating the cowboy, Boone, as well as a WWI medic. After animating them, Patrick exposes and manipulates them. Boone is shot by Little bear after Patrick has them watch a Western, and the medic believes he is in the midst of a dream. As a result, this causes conflict between the two friends, which is later resolved.
