The Hunger Games

i dont understand a few things from the hunger games

there is just a few things from the hunger games book that i just dont understand.

like when Gale makes the comment that the Capitol wants the districts to be divided, that it is to their

advantage. What does he mean by this?

or What problems might arise from victors of the Hunger Games earning free food for their fellow

citizens?

or when Peeta says that he doesn’t want to lose himself once the Games begin and that he wants to

prove he’s not just a “piece in their Games.” What does he mean by this?

Gale means that splitting the districts up makes each of them weaker and hence less likely to revolt against the Capitol. They would be more isolated from each other making contact more difficult. It would also be a "divide and conquer" idea where the Capitol could pit districts against each other.
