I think Haymitch in the movies, played by Woody Harrelson, is pretty close with the Haymitch in the books. He begins as a drunken wretch who has given up on society but finds his way into caring again because of Katniss and Peta. There are small scene differences like when Haymitch is drunk at The Reaping and falls off the stage but in the movie, this doesn't happen or Peta having to clean up Haymitch's drunken vomit. The general characters are the same. My take on this is that too many people read and loved the book for the studio to change much.

Basically what Aslan said is true for Haymitch.

Aslan's got it down.

Nothings really different about Haymitch Abernathy in both the books and films. He's pretty much the same.

1: he was never drunk in the movies.

2: he never threw up in the movies.

3: He did not punch Peeta in the movies
