The Hunger Games is a dystopia. Most dystopia stories strive to be relevant to our world. They help us see the folly of human nature and our practices. The rich oppressing the weak, our insatiable need for voyeuristic entertainment (like reality shows), and our fascination with blood sports like MMA are not too far removed from Suzanne Collins' futuristic dystopia.
