What does the title of chapter 5 "May and November," convey?

I do not quite understand what this means. I believe it may associate hot and cold feelings between characters in the book.

Perhaps you are right. Nothing seems to be stated clearly or even in strong metaphor that I can see. In the chapter Phoebe begins to transform the dreary house into a place of light. I suppose, May being a time of more light, Phoebe's presence carries that light into the dark days of November.
