The Hot Zone

How does this book apply to life and science in general?

Was there something unfair that happened to the characters in the book that you can relate to? Is there something about this book that is common in scientific practice?

The biology of life is complex and ever evolving. Viruses are a part of life. Sometimes man creates his own monsters and sometimes viruses merely serve an evolutionary purpose. Certainly people and scientists dying of Ebola was not fair. For many characters the Ebola outbreak held a potential devastation that could not be imagined and that had yet been encountered with. I think they did their best. Certainly carrying infected specimen in garbage bags was not protocol even in the 1980's. Still, the scientists did the best they could at the time.
