Like Marburg or Ebola, AIDS has survived for thousands of years in some unknown jungle host. Before the Kinshasa Highway was constructed, it was difficult for people to travel long distances, thus, the virus remained contained in smaller populations. Once people began to travel freely, the virus was carried with them to the outside world, resulting in millions of deaths.
