What kind of tone does Tolkien establish in the novel, and how does he maintain this tone? Thank you!!

For the most part, the narrator's tone is light and easygoing. The narrator is humorous, witty, and somewhat sarcastic. He keeps this tone going by making jokes and looking on the bright side. Optimism is always at the forefront.
