Thorin is enraged, This was the most sacred of Elven gems that was stolen from him. He, of course, wants it back.

My 8 year old grandson wants to know why Sauron didn't turn invisible when he wore the "One Ring" while everyone else does?

Isildur , son of Elendel took up his father's broken sword. Narsil and cut off the One Ring from Sauron's finger. They battled him and could see him to cut the ring off while he wore it on his finger.
