The Vogons enjoy the fact that the humans are oblivious to their intent, Zaphod is suppoed to be a leader, and yet, he has no foresight, he is completely ignorant.
Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz purposely tortures Ford and Arthur by reading his poetry to them. Then he sends them into space.
