Aibileen is embittered by the treatment blacks receive by white society. An example of this would be the misconceptions of blacks.... changing toilets or installing new toilets because blacks cause disease. Another example would be Mrs. Leefolt's treatment of her daughter. Leefolt has no motherly instincts and leaves her entirely in the care of Aibileen. She avoids and neglects her, and even hides her away, thinking her physically unattractive.
