How has Rita’s treatment of offred changed

Offred gives Rita the groceries and asks for a match. Although this annoys Rita there is a new tolerance for Offred because of Serena Joy’s instructions. Rita eats one of the ice cubes on the table, and offers one to Offred. It is a gesture of friendship which Offred didn't expect.
