The Great Gatsby

Why does he do this?

Notice how many times Fitzgerald uses the words hope, or dream.

The novel, The Great Gatsby, is centered around the theme of hopes and deams. Gatsby's every action is based upon his hope to achieve what he believes is necessary to attain his dream.... Daisy. In the end, we find Gatsby has placed all of his hopes on a dream..... something that doesn't exist.
