Why does Fitzgerald list all of Gatsby's party guests?

I think this is done to illustrate how isolated Gatsby actually is from the elite of East Egg. Most of them have never laid eyes on Gatsby but still come to his legendary parties "like moths to the flame".They were merely vapid parasites looking for a good time.
