Why did gatsby fire all his servants?

Gatsby fired all of his servants to insure that his regular interludes with Daisy wouldn't become a source of gossip.

“I hear you fired all your servants.”

“I wanted somebody who wouldn’t gossip. Daisy comes over quite often—in the afternoons.”
