When Myrtle sees Jordan Baker riding with Tom Buchanan, Myrtle assumes Jordan must be Tom's wife. This moment is important, because Myrtle is having an affair with Tom and believes he is no longer in love with his wife and is going to divorce her to be with Myrtle.
