Tom allowed and led Wilson to believe that it was Gatsby, who was having an affair with his wife. He also allowed Wilson to believe that it was Gatsby driving the car that killed her. Tom omits that he was actually the one carrying on with Myrtle and never says a word about the fact that his wife was driving the care that killed her. He is, in fact, morally responsible for Myrtle, Wilson, and Gatsby's death.
