Chapter 9
There is an emptiness that inhabits chapter 9. Where Gatsby's mansion was one filled with mindless revelers consuming copious amounts of alcohol at Gatsby's expense, it is now barren. The emptiness of Gatsby's life comes into focus. Everything that Gatsby built was a facade. The imagery of large looming structures that are illuminated for what they really are becomes prevalent. Without Gatsby's obsession, they droop and decay in what is the emptiness of Gatsby's life.
