The Great Gatsby

the question was too long its down below

In his final comment nick says gatsby believed in the green light the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us it included us then but that's no matter tomorrow we will run faster stretch out our arms farther and one fine morning so we beat on boats against the current borne back ceaselessly into the past? Why is this quote significant to the theme of the american dream novel?

Nick is referring Gatsby spent his life moving toward an unreachable green light (dream) that ended up being his own death. Thus, when you spend your life reaching for nothing more than the goal you dream of...... you often miss life altogether.
