In what way is Gatbsy's uniform an "invisible cloak"?

This is referring to Gatsby's military uniform. To Daisy, he looked like all the other soldiers. The uniform was, however, an invisible cloak that hid Gatsby's meager family background. Gatsby would be able to reinvent himself after the war and Daisy would never have to know that Gatsby was ever poor.
