Myrtle calmly and slowly walks down the stairs. She is a vibrant character in contrast to her husband, but she is not a classic beauty. She is a slow burn beauty and she acts that way. She walks slowly and manipulates her husband out of the room by sending him for chairs. This allows Tom to tell her about his desire to meet. Her calm quiet response helps hide their affair from her husband.
