Why does Tom insist on driving Gatsby’s car, despite Gatsby’s distaste for the idea?

There are many reasons for this but I'll go with the main one. Tom wants George and Myrtle to think Gatsby is driving his car, the car that will later be referred to as "the death car". Another speculation is that Tom does the opposite of what Gatsby purposes. Gatsby wants them to all ride in his car so Tom suggests a different plan.
