The weather is a motif throughout the novel. The emotional intensity of the characters often matches the weather. The reunion between Gatsby and Daisy, for example, is stilted and filled with remorse. Likewise, the weather outside is poring rain. As the two discover rekindle their desire for each other, the sun comes out.
