explain what Fitzgerald achieved by using Nick's point of view to tell Gatsby's story?

In using Nick as the novel's narrator, he afforded himself an outsiders point of view. Nick looks at the situation from the outside, and although, he has relationships with other characters in the novel, these relationships give the reader a more intimate look.
