No, Tom didn't know who was driving the "death car." The car actually belonged to Gatsby and Tom had no way of knowing that Daisy was driving it. Tom also had a great dislike for Gatsby so it was easy to vent his fury towards Gatsby, "The God damned coward!" he whimpered. "He didn't even stop his car."
