I like this passage,

“We haven’t met for many years,” said Daisy, her voice as matter-of-fact as it could ever be.

“Five years next November.”

The automatic quality of Gatsby’s answer set us all back at least another minute.

I find this passage to be quite straight forward but loaded with meaning. Daisy, who probably knows when she last saw Gatsby, attempts to nonchalantly "guess" how long they have been apart. Gatsby isn't so nuanced. He directly knows the time, each day each hour. I like how Fitzgerald is able to utilize such a simple conversation to indirectly say so much about his characters.
