Gatsby tell Nick a few half-truths in Chapter Four. He claims to be from a prominent mid-west family and quickly covers his bases when Nick asks the family name. He claims to have attended Oxford.... once again a half-truth over which Gatsby "choked". Gatsby reinvents himself for the same reason he does everything...... Daisy. He seeks to impress.... make himself worthy.
