He loves her unconditionally and this makes Dorothy feel secure and loved. She accompanies William to various destinations as she documents everything that she comes across.

    The reader comprehends that Dorothy falls in love with nature when she is still a young girl. Whenever she goes out with her brother, she writes down everything she came across including trees, animals, and other living organisms. For instance, when she travels upcountry with William, she loves the environment and she decides to document every aspect of the landscape. Therefore, she started developing an interest in writing when she first fell in love with the environment.

Dorothy is not happy with this new development because Mary is slowly taking the love and affection of her brother. When William relocates with Mary to a new destination, Dorothy is left at Grasmere and she feels that her energy to writing is depleted because her lovely brother is going to spend the rest of his life with Mary.
