What reason does Ma give Tom for making Pa angry? How does this support Steinbeck's theme of wrath?

Pa has lost his place as the head of the family, and the children are becoming unruly.Pa feels impotent, not having a way to support his family both emotionally and financially. This internal wrath at everything and everyone turns to despair when a man feels he has lost all honour.
