what does the old man who is returning from california NOT tell joads?

I'm not sure where you are here. I recall, in chapter 13, the gas station owner claims that fifty cars per day go west, but wonders what the Joads expect to find when they reach their destination. He doesn't go into detail about what will happen in California.
