The Grapes of Wrath

How effective was this book during the Great Depression?

How effective was this book? Who is the speaker(s) in this book; what may have prompted the speaker to write this book; who is the audience for the speaker; why is this being written; what is the tone of the writer / speaker and what does this accomplish?

The Grapes of Wrath effectively brought an enormous amount of attention to the plight of the migrant worker. The narrator is an anonymous voice, who is sympathetic toward the workers; he is objective and speaks in a mournful, dire tone.
