Amanda is no longer a Southern belle of aristocracy. She finds herself a single mother living in an apartment in St. Louis. Amanda is strong enough to see the realities of her situation and wants to survive. She is weak in that she would rather manipulate people, like Tom, and threatens is future to ensure her own.
