The Glass Hotel

The Glass Hotel Analysis

Vincent and her half-brother, Paul, are working at a five-star hotel owned by Jonathan. Jonathan is interested in Vincent. As a result, he gives her a tip together with a business card. The two hit it off immediately and start living together. Jonathan is running a fraudulent financial scheme where he purports to hold retirement funds, fortunes, and life savings for his clients. However, his investment scheme collapses, putting the lives of his clients in danger. He is taken to jail where the ghosts of his victims haunt him. His wife walks away into darkness. Thirteen years later, Vincent vanishes from a container ship at sea. The fictional book shows how lack of responsibilities can lead to tragic consequences.

People can easily be caught in a network of unintended consequences. For example, Olivia Collins, Leon Prevalent, and Saudi prince have been caught in a web of fraudulent scheme unintentionally. The falsified scheme costs them dearly. Indeed, they have lost their fortunes. Wealth corrupts the morals of people. The author shows how greed for wealth has unpleasant impacts on people’s inner emotional lives. Greediness can lead an individual to a disastrous experience, as in the case of Jonathan. Jonathan deprives his clients of their fortunes and ends up in jail. Besides, he has become bankrupt. People may also get plunged into unknown world involuntarily. Vincent is trapped with wealth and ends up getting plunged into the world of fraud. Ultimately, choices have consequences.
