I think this is because she was find reporting the truth. Jannette was also moving up. First she received a part time job as an interviewer and then moved on to the Phoenix, interviewing people like Mr. Armstrong. She finds identity and the validation she craves. This is an allusion to the mythic Rising Phoenix which symbolizes birth, death, and rebirth, as well as eternity, strength, and renewal. Jeannette is reborn into a new life through her job at the Phoinix.
