Religion was significant to some members of the Walls family but not all. Dad didn't believe in God; Mom was a practicing Catholic. On the days Mrs. Walls required her husband to accompany the family to church, he would often make a scene...... challenging the priest, and eventually the ushers would ask the family to leave. The children, of course, were embarrassed, but Mom would say, "Don't worry, God understands," Mom said. "He knows that your father is a cross we must bear."
