What turning point occurs in Chapter 11? Why is this significant?

In Chapter 11, Jonas receives his first memory of pain..... the sting of a sunburn. Afterward, Jonas says, "I understand now thank you sir, see you tomorrow"..... leaving us to wonder how true pain will effect and eventually weigh him down.
