We are all connected. The stories we tell involve more than the direct people: the cast of "supporting actors" are all of us in some way. Consider each person that Eddie meets in heaven. Eddie has affected them and they have affected Eddie. In turn there is an endless ripple that all humanity shares. It could be as fleeting as someone you see in a subway one day but never see again.
