why did Mr.van Hounten act the way he did when Hazel and Augustus met him in Amsterdam. (p.285)

Hazel and Augustus reminded Van Houten of his daughter, who died of cancer at a very young age. He couldn't emotionally handle how young they were..... he found the entire meeting too difficult.
