The Fall of the House of Usher

Two questions

What was the proprietor's reaction when he saw the figure? What was the reaction of the narrator and what happened to the mansion?

As a reader were you surprised the conclusion and plot? Please expalin why or why not?

By this point in the novel, Roderick is pretty crazy himself. His mind has deteriorated to close to Madeline's zombie like state. The narrator runs from the mansion and is happy to be out of it. There is a sense of terror and relief as he sees the mansion crumble in the distance. I think the whole story foreshadowed this ending. Everything and everyone, including the narrator, was deteriorating.
