How does the setting contribute to the development of the theme?

The Usher home is unkempt, neglected, and a danger to its inhabitants.... it is crumbling from the foundation. The family, Usher and Madeline, like their home, are in great danger of self-destruction. The "fall" infers not only the family home, but the family itself.
