The only thing I see that fits in with the theme of appearances versus reality in the story, The Enormous Radio, is our initial introduction to the main characters. At the start of the story, the Westcotts appear to be an average couple, who are happily married and satisfied with their lives. The only difference between the Westcotts and the people they socialized with was their love of classical music. After Jim purchases the radio, their lives change drastically. Irene becomes enthralled by the secrets she learns through the radio, and she comes enjoy eavesdropping above all else. Her satisfying life takes second place to an obsession, and a game that involves trying to figure out exactly who said what.
