Granpa has no understanding of people who age whiskey. If they wanted to the smell a barrel they should stick their head in one, and then have a drink of honest whiskey. He refers to this sort as 'barrel sniffers' and believes rich men once schemed to fool people into thinking the barrel smell tasted better.
