Miep brings a cake to celebrate the new year.

It’s been ages since I even saw a cake. Not since you brought us one last year. (Without looking at the cake, to MIEP) Remember? Don’t you remember, you gave us one on New Year’s Day? Just this time last year? I’ll never forget it because you had “Peace in nineteen forty-three” on it. (She looks at the cake and reads) “Peace in nineteen forty-four!”
