What is the “ modern “ Hannah’s attitude toward her family and Jewish culture at the beginning of the movie and WHY

Hannah goes through the motions, but she really has no interest in her family's religion. Like most teenagers, she would rather be hanging out with her friends. She doesn't understand her grandfather's anger about the war, and she doesn't try.... she just wants to be done with dinner and get on with her life..... until she experiences what it's all about.
