Leye, the baby's mother, was angry that Hannah did not remove the child's clothes before entering the midden because they got dirty. Rivka then reminded Leye that Hannah likely saved the child's life. Leye then says she will "organize," or steal, some water. That night Hannah falls asleep, sure that the stench of the midden will never fully be washed from her pores.
